The Diocese of Lake Charles, in southwest Louisiana, was facing problems common to Catholic dioceses that focus on helping the needy: an underfunded priest pension account, a cathedral in need of restoration and many parish buildings needing similar work. Given the diocese’s tight annual budget, leadership knew that a capital campaign – the first ever for the diocese – would be necessary.
