The Diocese of Hamilton, in Ontario, Canada, took a unique approach to the One Heart, One Soul campaign – 75% of the funds raised returned directly to the parishes. With an additional 10% earmarked for parishes most in need. The campaign’s motto from Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, Bishop of Hamilton, was “strong parishes, strong diocese.” This approach of strengthening the collective through the bolstering of each individual parish resonated deeply with pastors and parishioners across the diocese. The diocese’s second wave of parishes was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Despite delaying the launch of the third and fourth parish waves, the campaign exceeded the Steier Group’s planning study projection of $28 million and is on track to exceed the diocese’s public goal of $35 million. The campaign helped the diocese grow closer together during a challenging time and will provide parishes with a strong foundation for continued growth.
