St. Joseph Catholic Church and School

THE CHALLENGE

Located north of Nashville, St. Joseph Catholic Church and School in Madison, Tennessee, has served as a spiritual home for generations of families, and today even includes parishioners who were among the first students in the school when the doors opened in 1953. But as the parish and school community continued to grow, the St. Joseph campus faced mounting challenges. The facilities were aging and inadequate for the needs of a vibrant, active community. Parking was limited, security concerns existed around the school playground and much of the campus space was underutilized. Additionally, as part of a long-term strategic plan, St. Joseph needed to complete essential site work before realizing future goals. At the same time, the parish needed to fulfill its role in the Diocese of Nashville’s capital campaign.

THE VISION

Parish leadership received the challenges as a call to action. Envisioning a renewed and revitalized campus, plans for a capital campaign included:

• Relocating the school playground for greater security.
• Adding 125 new parking spaces to improve accessibility during Mass and large events.
• Installing required stormwater retention systems to allow for future campus development.
• Creating new green space for recreation and gathering.
• Fully utilizing their entire property to meet the needs of a growing community.

THE SOLUTION

To bring this vision to life, St. Joseph partnered with the Steier Group for professional campaign management, communication strategies and on-site leadership to guide the parish through every step of the process, leaning into the benefits of shared resources with the simultaneous diocesan campaign. Working closely with parish and school leadership, the Steier Group developed the customized Together We Build Our Future to Greater Heights Capital Campaign that aligned the parish’s immediate needs with its participation in the diocesan campaign. This combined effort allowed St. Joseph to honor its commitment to the diocese while still focusing on its own essential campus improvements. The result was a successful capital campaign that strengthened the bonds of community and deepened parishioner engagement.
