St. John Paul II Newman Center in Omaha, Nebraska, was born of a bold vision to bridge the gap young Catholics face between high school and adulthood. The Newman Center sought to stem the tide of students leaving the Catholic church. This bold vision led to a beautiful new facility that serves Catholic college students in the Archdiocese of Omaha, where attendance at Mass and participation in Bible study has gone up. Newman Hall also provides housing for more than 130 residents. But this bold vision and growth came with a cost – $14.6 million in debt. JPII Newman Center launched the From the Rooftops Debt Reduction Campaign to address this growing issue and provide additional support for operations during the pandemic. The Catholic community in Omaha supported this important endeavor, raising $4.6 million to lessen the debt faced by the Newman Center.
