Saint Faustina Catholic Church

THE CHALLENGE

Growth at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Fulshear, Texas, was nearly instantaneous. Within a year of the parish’s initiation, membership exploded to over 1,600 families. Plans to build a church building and campus needed to accelerate. However, with a budding congregation, church leadership did not have deep, trusted relationships with parishioners that are essential during a capital campaign.

THE VISION

Church leadership identified the needs of this thriving parish. Projects to be addressed by a capital campaign included:

  • Purchasing land for the parish campus.
  • Constructing a new parish hall.
  • Building out office space, meeting rooms for faith formation and ministries, a conference room and a commercial kitchen.
  • Constructing a parking lot and other outdoor amenities.

THE SOLUTION

With help from the Steier Group, the parish created a tailored strategic plan to reach its fundraising goals. The Steier Group realized quickly that this community is deeply spiritual and committed to the parish’s vision. By focusing on stewardship and spiritual connections, the parish deeply engaged the community. Enthusiastic volunteers were recruited to personally help expand outreach to the many new members of the parish. The first successful campaign in 2015 raised more than $5.4 million. While the fundraising total was impressive and necessary, what was equally important was that the faithful had a good giving experience, to make sure future campaigns could also do well. This first initiative formed a foundation for the St. Faustina community to grow, thrive and build fellowship in a new parish home.

The St. Faustina community partnered with the Steier Group two more times, in 2018 and 2023, to continue on the journey of completing its campus, including the construction of a new church. The 2018 campaign raised more than $8 million, and the 2023 campaign raised more than $18 million. These projects highlighted the importance of not only focusing on fundraising during a campaign, but building toward future successes. Do it well and do it the right way. This was accomplished at St. Faustina.

“Early in my priesthood I said to myself, ‘I will never do a capital campaign.’ Fundraising was the last thing I would ever want to do as a priest. … Thankfully, I had the campaign manager and, with him, the whole Steier Group in my corner.”
