THE CHALLENGE
For more than a century, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Parish and School in Shawnee, Kansas, has been a testament to faith, perseverance and community. From its beginnings in 1900 in Wilder to the construction of a church in Bonner Springs and the dedication of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School in 1958, the parish always responded to growth with bold faith and sacrifice. Today, Sacred Heart is one of the largest parishes in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, serving more than 2,000 families. With continued growth came new challenges: facilities stretched beyond capacity, limited space for worship and formation, and a clear need to ensure that the parish campus fully supports the mission of the Church for generations to come.
THE VISION
Parish leadership discerned a phased plan to allow meaningful progress without incurring long-term debt. The first part of the plan addressed several goals including:
- Finishing the school basement.
- Expanding existing meting spaces and partially finishing the church basement.
- Building an adoration chapel.
- Strengthening the parish endowment.
THE SOLUTION
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Parish and School partnered with the Steier Group to lead its Mission Investment Capital Campaign, building up a deep history of generosity and resilience.
