Like many Catholic Newman Centers, the Newman Center at Northern Arizona University had outdated facilities and lacked the proper space to minister to the students it serves. The Catholic Jacks partnered with the Steier Group for a capital campaign to build a center, including a church with a seating capacity of 450. A successful decade had seen the Catholic Jacks outgrow its small chapel with attendance at activities more than doubling. This successful ministry had nine men enter seminary, many students becoming Catholic and more than 100 students attending bible studies. Despite the pandemic, the Northern Arizona University Newman Center donors saw the importance of the new center and eagerly supported the effort, raising more than $12 million.
