Over the years, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and School in Lincoln, Nebraska, accumulated debt in order to meet operational expenses. Eventually budgeting brought operational costs in line, but that still left debt remaining with the Diocese of Lincoln. In 2021, parish leadership decided to tackle the debt and other needs with the Community of Hope campaign. In addition to retiring the debt, the campaign also raised funds to pay off rental mortgages, replace the church and school roofs, improve parking and traffic flow, renovate the school kitchen and create a recreational green space on campus. Once these needs were met, any additional funds went into a fund to build a parish hall in the future. Despite the pandemic, the Blessed Sacrament community exceeded the funds needed to reach all of the goals and create the fund to build a parish hall, setting the parish up for success when it is time to fundraise for that addition to campus.
