THE CHALLENGE
With an eye toward the future, leadership of the Diocese of Brownsville recognized an opportunity to respond to both the spiritual and practical needs of its growing communities across the Rio Grande Valley. Through diocesan-wide Synod listening sessions, thousands of faithful shared a common desire to strengthen parish life, expand evangelization in underserved communities, better accompany those facing mental health challenges and more intentionally engage young people. At the same time, parishes throughout the diocese faced unique pastoral and facility needs that required local investment. The challenge was to unite the entire diocesan family around a shared vision while ensuring every parish would directly benefit from a campaign’s success.
THE VISION
Looking to strengthen both the local Church and its individual parishes, the Diocese of Brownsville created specific campaign goals including:
- Investing funds to strengthen parishes, allowing every parish and mission to retain half of the funds raised toward its goal to address locally identified pastoral and facility priorities.
- Expanding evangelization efforts throughout the diocese by equipping parish leaders, supporting underserved communities and forming missionary disciples to bring the Gospel to every corner of the Rio Grande Valley.
- Establishing new ministries to accompany individuals and families facing mental health challenges through parish-based support, professional guidance and partnerships with community organizations.
- Strengthening ministry for youth and young adults through regional leadership, faith formation and opportunities that empower the next generation to become active missionary disciples.
THE SOLUTION
The Diocese of Brownsville partnered with the Steier Group to build and execute the Love Builds Hope Capital Campaign, developing a faith-centered stewardship initiative inspired by the voices of the Synod and rooted in the shared mission of the Church. Working closely with diocesan leadership, pastors and volunteers across the diocese, the Steier Group team helped communicate a compelling vision that emphasized the campaign’s unique parish-first approach while inviting every Catholic to participate in building a stronger future for the Church. By combining strategic campaign planning, including a customized Spanish-language outreach, with a message centered on faith, hope and shared sacrifice, the campaign positioned the Diocese of Brownsville to strengthen its parishes, expand vital ministries and bring Christ’s love to communities throughout the Rio Grande Valley for generations to come.
“Throughout the campaign, the Steier Group brought professionalism, steady counsel, and a clear understanding of the ecclesial setting in which the campaign was carried out. They have also demonstrated a clear willingness to learn and adapt to the unique circumstances faced by many of our parishes and mission chapels.”
