Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and School

A thriving parish and school community, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Parish in Spokane, Washington, is ready to move forward with updating current structures, as well as expanding its facilities. The project requires sanctuary modernization, roof replacement and construction of a parish hall complex, with an added long-term vision to develop affordable senior housing options. The original design of the existing roof was not suited for the harsh weather conditions in the region, with rain, wind, snow and ice dams creating major interior and exterior damage to the building. But replacing the roof also requires bringing the entire 1978 building up to code, including upgrades to plumbing, sewage treatment and water flow. Additionally, ADA-compliant entrances and updates to the building will provide easier access. As the first major capital campaign in 25 years, Building Light and Faith successfully enabled the community to create a future vision that is useful and inclusive. The parish first engaged with the Steier Group for a planning study that gave the parish the confidence to move forward with a plan. This successful campaign raised more than $2.8 million, which allows the parish to accomplish the many and varied goals that create the opportunity for the parish to serve the community in the future.
