Recruiting the Right Volunteers

All of us have heard the age-old fundraising slogan, "people give to people." "Well, this couldn't be more true. It's the nonprofits who embrace this philosophy which are also the ones who raise the most money year after year.

As you continually work over your major donor list, of equal importance is identifying the right person to serve as the main contact for this donor. Most organizations can successfully identify their "A" list and determine an amount of money a given donor could contribute. But the next step, of identifying and recruiting the best contact person, is often the forgotten element. If left to chance, it will ultimately lead to either a smaller gift or the inability to conduct a personal meeting.

So, the next time you sit down to evaluate your major prospects, make sure you are also assigning the best contact person possible and then secure their involvement. Your results will speak for themselves.
