Every capital campaign is distinctive but the We Belong to Christ Campaign for the Diocese of La Crosse (Wisconsin) has been unique in many ways—none more prominent than the $50 million goal. To date, more than $51 million has been raised while efforts in parishes and unified school systems continue.

The We Belong to Christ Campaign involves 165 parishes and seven school systems within the Diocese. Although a diocesan-driven campaign, it is truly 165 individual parish campaigns, each parish with its own needs and goals. At the parish level, needs being addressed range from renovations, to new parish halls, to endowments, to debt retirement.

At the diocesan level, lay retirement, seminarian education and priest retirement funding are among the programs being addressed. The Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki, Bishop of La Crosse, saw the need for the parishes to be financially healthier, so the premise in the We Belong to Christ Campaign was to have 80 percent of the funds raised stay at the parishes and schools, with the remaining twenty percent shared with the Diocese.
