Meet the Group – Executives
Jim, a Creighton University graduate, has more than 14 years of professional experience in
nonprofit development and fundraising. In addition to his 10 years of consultant experience, Jim has served as
a public relations director, director of annual giving, alumni relations director and director of development
for nonprofit
organizations. As an executive supervisor or lead
consultant, Jim has worked with more than 175
nonprofit organizations in the past 10 years.

Mike, who has been with the Steier Group since August 1997, is the chief operating officer of the firm. He oversees all of the company's campaign managers and has been a member of the Steier Group's project team on every effort. He is responsible for
strategizing daily with the campaign managers, maintaining regular contact with the clients,
hosting weekly report meetings with the campaign managers, coordinating all of the Steier Group's
resources to garner success for our clients and
ensuring that all follow-up activities are conducted
at the conclusion of the firm's on-site service.

Mike joined the Steier Group in 1999 and now serves as president of the company. Mike is an attorney who practiced privately
for four years before taking a position at Creighton University in University
Relations as assistant director. After serving in this position for five years,
Mike joined the Steier Group as a development consultant. Since his promotion to
president in 2007, Mike has been actively involved in every campaign
managed by the Steier Group.

Gary has been with the Steier Group since 2001 and was
promoted to associate vice president in 2004. With 22 years as an
Army officer and six years of development knowledge, Gary brings an excellent
background of experience and leadership to the Steier Group and its clients.
He continues to serve as a senior campaign manager while directing the professional
development program. As an associate vice president, he also is part
of the management team and supervises a number of campaign managers.

John is the Director of Communications for the Steier Group and was promoted to associate vice president in 2007. John's 20 years of experience in broadcast journalism, media relations and marketing is a perfect fit for a company which takes pride in helping nonprofits clarify their needs and the best strategy for articulating them to their staff, clients, donors and the public. Glenn, who graduated from the Creighton Preparatory High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, also supervises our graphic artists.

Mary Gene Wepfer brings energy, enthusiasm and an unmatched work ethic to her clients as an associate vice president and senior campaign manager for the Steier Group. Mary Gene’s organizational skills and her ability to maximize volunteers’ potential are a perfect fit for managing capital campaigns. She came to the Steier Group after 13 years at Creighton University organizing athletic events and fundraising. This native of Burnet,
Texas attended Southwest Texas State and serves as a member of the Steier Group’s leadership team.

Bob offers a wide-range of experience and talent in his role as an associate vice president and senior campaign manager. A former development director for the Environmental Law and Policy Center in Chicago, Bob joined the Steier Group in 2004. He served eight years as the president of Creighton Preparatory School in Omaha where he led a comprehensive strategic planning process and capital campaign. Bob earned his undergraduate degree from St. Louis University; a master’s of divinity degree from Weston Jesuit School of Theology; and a master’s in public affairs from the University of Minnesota’s Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. With the Steier Group, Bob is active as an on-site senior campaign manager and is a member of the firm’s management team.

Renee is a Client Services Director with the firm. Prior to her promotion to this position, Renee was a campaign manager who led numerous successful capital campaigns and major gifts/planned giving efforts for churches and dioceses.
As a Client Services Director, Coughlin is responsible for strategizing daily with the campaign managers to ensure success for the clients, maintaining regular contact with the clients and utilizing the firm's resources to maximize the potential success for our clients. Additionally, Coughlin is responsible for confirming that all follow-up activities are conducted at the conclusion of the firm's on-site service.
Coughlin is a native of Carroll, Iowa, and is a graduate of Creighton University in Omaha and Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll. Renee also serves as the firm’s planned giving expert and is a member of the Steier Group’s leadership team.
